0111000_
0111000_ is a multimedia performance installation integrating algorithmic composition, data tracking, electrical muscle stimulation (EMS), an endoscopic camera, and hydrophone recordings.
A limited audience is invited to sit in a thrust configuration around the body. Positioned in close proximity to both the performer and one another, the audience is confronted with a heightened awareness of intimate and private space, between themselves and in relation to the body before them.
The performer remains physically still throughout the duration of the work; movement is generated solely through EMS-induced muscular contractions. Suspended above the body, a screen displays minimalist and abstract visuals, some derived from the endoscopic camera placed inside the performer’s body. Through controlled contractions, the performer modulates both sound and visual elements.
The audience is drawn into a hypnotic state of presence in which the perception of time begins to blur. As this temporal disorientation deepens within the low-lit environment, the body shifts in perception: at times resembling a sculptural form, almost classical in its stillness, and at others appearing as an alien, unfamiliar surface, a presence both human and estranged.
“0111000_ is one of the most gripping performances I’ve seen in a long time. Emotionally powerful and provocative, visceral and intellectual, brutal yet caring, intimate and collective all at once, it merges concept and body into a physical experience that lingers long after the performance ends.”
